MTU Students Shoot for the Moon and Win

Michigan Tech learners took property major honors — the Artemis Award — in NASA’s Breakthrough,
Innovative and Match-switching (Significant) Plan Obstacle.

College students from Michigan Technological College want to glow a light-weight on the darkest
places of the moon. Their style and design, a rover named Tethered permanently shadowed Area
EXplorer (T-REX), deploys a light-weight, superconducting cable to preserve other lunar
rovers driven and supply wireless interaction as they operate in the serious environments
of the moon’s frigid, lightless craters.

8 university groups competed in the Significant Plan Obstacle for 2020, named the Lunar PSR Obstacle. The purpose? Demonstrating diverse technologies and
models to analyze and investigate the moon’s permanently shadowed regions (PSRs), which
NASA officials take note are a formidable obstacle for area exploration.

The senior style and design group drafted the original rover style and design: Samual Lakenen, Jacob Wolff,
Mark Wallach, Alexander Mathias, Alec Mitteer and Jonathan Fritsch. The relaxation of the

and introduced at the Significant Plan Obstacle Forum: 
Travis Wavrunek, Elijah Cobb, Ted Gronda, Collin Miller, Marcello Guadagno, Hunter
McGillivray, Nicholas Zamora, Austen Goddu, Erik Van Horn, Wyatt Wagoner, Anthony
Miller. The group is advised by Paul van Susante.
